IDEM is a global network of young people and international projects who want to bring about real change in the world. Today we live in a global society that is still trying to solve its issues with the structures and attitudes of a past century.
Idem is the Latin word for the same, the self, the identity.
Today, more than ever before, the world is in need of concrete individual initiative. But not initiative that is simply for personal benefit. There is more than enough of that. Rather, we need initiatives that directly confront the issues of our time, which every aware young person today can hardly avoid seeing:
Globalisation
Global Warming
The Peak Oil problem
Desertification and the Eroding and Plundering of the Land
Poverty, War, Social Inequality
Genetic Manipulation and the Industrialisation of Agriculture
The Identity of the Individual
These are just the most obvious, the ones we can’t really argue about. There are a lot of others too, but the above are really staring us in the face!
So what are we going to do about it? Moan? Lose heart? Hope that by looking out for ourselves, they will somehow go away?
Most of us actually want to get something out of life, to live a life of joy and fulfilment - one that has a meaning for ourselves, for other people and for the world.
This means not remaining inactive! It means getting out there and doing something, but something that is carefully planned, something effective, and something that is an expression of all that we are – that we can identify with…
We have found a great many people and organisations who are trying to work in this way all over the world; individuals who have taken part in the things we did, organisations that have supported us or with whom we are working as partners, and sponsors, both as individuals or in foundations and companies. You find links to these in the following pages.
We have made it our purpose to support such initiative – to create a network of active people, young people with initiative and good ideas.
